Can you imagine Hendrix doing Rap if he was still alive today? I can’t. But then, when I think about it, this idea doesn’t really seem to be so far-fetched after all, does it?
I think many people were wondering what Jimi’s musical journey would have liked if he hadn’t dies on September 18th, 1970. Well, Eddie Kramer, his producer who worked with Hendrix for a long time, has his own thoughts.
Kramer believes that with Jimi’s ingenuity and his ability to absorb, digest and ultimately use all different kinds of influences across all musical genres, he would have revolutionized Rock Music and taken it into a complete new direction. And Kramer went on to philosophize: “Who knows? He might have even gotten into Rap.”
Yes, to many of us fans the sheer thought of Jimi doing hip-hop is not an easy one to process. But I think Kramer has a point and as he pointed out in a recent interview, he thinks about this all the time. The fact remains that back in the day Jimi was at the forefront as far as revolutionizing guitar music is concerned.
So it’s only reasonable to assume that he would have progressed as an artists and person over the past four decades, possibly becoming – as Kramer stated – “..a great producer…running his own record company…owning a film company…etc.” Just like Jay-Z is today, so thinks Kramer, as reported by ultimateclassicrock.com.
Well, who knows. It sure would have been interesting to witness Jimi’s journey and see what he would have come up with. Which reminds me, I need to check out the Electric Church concert documentary which should come out any day.
