The ‘Old Familiar Chime’ Guitar Festival will feature a distinct medley of different guitar styles this year. Well, arguably different, I guess. Because the seven guitarists sharing the stage at the yearly St. Paul event are all more or less rooted in folk music. However, they certainly bring an extensive unique background to the table, so while the underlying theme might be more or less similar, we will likely witness a lot of variety in each guitarist approach to their instruments.
According to Chriss Berry, the event organizer, the composition of this year’s lineup was a half and half mix of intent and serendipity. But most importantly, to him, it all fits and just “makes sense”.
Speaking of the lineup, the festival will feature guitarists from the UK, New York, Michigan, California and Massachusetts. Some names may sound familiar to you: Spider John Koerner, Alexander Turnqist, Michael Chapman, Bill Orcutt, Glenn Jones and Matthew De Gennaro.
All invitees speak highly of the festival and the fact that it will showcase and illustrious mix or guitarist of different generations, different musical background and geographic regions – but also appreciate the fact that they know of each other, get to meet and perform on Friday, September 19, 2014, at The Turf Club, 1601 university Ave. in St. Paul. The gig starts at 7 p.m. and ticket are available for $20-$25.
