Honestly, I never heard of her before. Just looked her up on YouTube, etc. So, I guess her name is Annie Clark and her chosen stage name is St. Vincent. Apparently, she’s been on the scene for a little while, had some good success with her albums and is recognized for her guitar skills.
Again, since I don’t know her material at all, I can’t tell you what I think of her work. But irrespectively of that, the fact is that Ernie Ball Music Man will come out with a guitar designed by her in 2016. St. Vincent fans who are eager to get their hands on the new Annie Clark guitar can sign-up via email to get notified when the Ernie Ball is ready to get pre-orders.
According to Clark, the premise for designing and building the new Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent was to incorporate comfort and lightweight without compromising the tonal range. The instrument will become available in “St. Vincent Blue” or black.
The St. Vincent guitar features a hand-rubbed rosewood fretboard. The body is make of African mahogany. To me, the instrument looks like a typical Music Man. It also comes with a 5-way pick-up and 3 mini humbuckers and Schaller locking tuners. Sound-wise, the idea was to design an instrument that fits her rather unique, electro-robotic punk-pop approach to guitar playing.
So, go ahead and check it out. Or rather sign-up with Ernie Ball so you’ll know when the St. Vincent guitar comes out. Probably not my cup of tea, but I’d love to get some feedback if/when some of you had a chance to play this axe.
