Today, I will show you how to play ‘Little Drummer Boy’ on guitar in a video tutorial. Of course, as always, this free online guitar lesson comes with a worksheet containing all the ‘Little Drummer Boy’ guitar chords and lyrics. While the chords are very straight forward and on a beginner level, I also included the respective chord diagrams. Please download and print out the worksheet as you follow along with the lesson.
Alright, I’m assuming you’re down with the following chords: C-Major, G-Major and D-Major. If you are, you’re golden and good to go. If not and you need to familiarize yourself with these finger-positions, check out the Guitar Chordbank or the Beginners Guitar Course.
In order to keep things very simple, in the first section of the video we will be using a very easy down-stroke strumming pattern. That’s a good way to learn the song and get used to the chord changes. While the chords are likely not too much of an issue, changing from a C to a G, etc. can be a little tricky, especially for a guitar beginner. Therefore, start out with the simple down-stroke technique as your first strumming pattern for ‘Little Drummer Boy’. Also, start at a slow pace and increase the tempo gradually as you get more comfortable with the chord changes.
In the second part of this video lesson, I tried to resemble the rhythmic pattern of this Christmas song by using a rather unusual, yet easy to learn strumming technique. I was trying to somewhat emulate the drum beat by adjusting the strumming pattern accordingly.
Alright, that’s all there is to it. I hope you found this tutorial on how to play ‘Little Drummer Boy’ on guitar helpful. There’s room for questions and comments below.
