It is not clear whether or not Bob Welch, former guitarist of the band Fleetwood Mac, committed suicide. But based on the current status of the investigations, everything looks like as if Welch took his own life with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was found by his wife and according previous reports, he had struggled with ongoing health issues.
Right after Peter Green’s and Jeremy Spencer’s departure, Bob Welch was asked to join Fleetwood Mac in the early seventies, where he played guitar and sang on “Bare Trees” and “Mystery to Me”. He decided to leave the band just before their greatest commercial success when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were added and the group’s most popular album “Rumors” came on the market. Stevie Nicks stated that she’s devastated over Welch’s death and called him and amazing guitar player. As a solo artist he produced a number of hit singles and few albums.
20 years after he had left the band, Welch sued Fleetwood Mac for unpaid royalties. As a result, he was uninvited from joining the group for their 1998 Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Earlier this year another ex Fleetwood Mac Guitarist, bob Weston, had died due to health issues.
Rest in peace, Mr. Welch.
